Random

Random- an event in which every outcome has an equal chance of occuring.

eg. fliping a coin.

-spinning a spinner with equal size options.

-rolling a die

-selecting a card

not random

eg spinning a spinner with unequal size options.

Goldilocks sits on chairs and eats porridge.

how many possible outcomes are there?

-there are nine possible outcomes.
Does goldilocks choose the chair and porridge at random?

explain your answer.

-No because she has choice and preference.

what is the probability goldilocks chooses the just right chair and the just right porrridge
-there is a 100% chance the she will pick it because it is just right.
Home work
A marble is randomly selected from a bag containing one blue, one red, and one green. Then a four sided die labelled 1,2,3,and 4 is rolled.
A) create a table to show sample space.
B) what is the probability of choosing any colour and number but 3.
C)what is the P(blue or green, a number greater than one.)
D) what is the P(black, 1)

PROBLIBILITY

You have a cup it has four coins in it there is a quarter, a dime,a nickel, and a penny

You draw one coin out of the cup then put it back then draw another coin. If the two numbers you drew from the cup add up evenly then you win if they add up oddly then you lose.

P(even sum)= 10/16 or 5/8 or 62.5%
P (odd sum)= 6/16 or 3/8 or 37.5%

A coin is flipped and a six sided die is rolled. these two events are called independent events. Independent Events- The outcome of one event has no effect on the outcome of another event.

Sample Space- All possible outcomes of an experiment.

A coin is flipped and a six sided die is rolled.

A) use a table/ chart to list the possible outcomes

B) How many possible outcomes are there

C) Write the sample space for this combination of events

Possible: 12
Sample Space:(H-1)(H-2)(H-3)(H-4)(H-5)(H-6)(H-7)(H-8)(H-9)(H-10)(H-11)(H-12)
(T-1)(T-2)(T-3)(T-4)(T-5)(T-6)(T-7)(T-8)(T-9)(T-10)(T-11)(T-12)

I think this video will really help anyone who doesn't understand how to do probability.

Probability

Heres a picture of 2 dices being used as an example of probability-

Probability is the likelihood or chance of an event occurring.

Probability= favourable outcomes over possible outcomes

Probability- can be expressed as a ratio, a fraction or a percent.

Outcome- is a one possible result of a probability experiment (what might happen)

Favourable- what we want to happen

Today we learned about Fractions

All fractions can be expressed (shown, writen) in the form a over b

*Fractions represent part of a whole.*
e.g. I have four coins one penny and three nickels therefore one coin is a penny and three coins are nickels (one over four).

A fraction is made up with a numerator (top number) and a denominator (bottom number)

There are three types of fractions
-Proper fraction numerator less than denominator
e.g. 1 over 2 , 9 over 10 , 49 over 69 more than 0
less than 1

-Improper fractions numerator greater then denominator
e.g. 3 over 2 , 9 over 8 , 6 over 4 more than 1

-mixed fractions is a whole number and a proper fraction
